The 180 players of the National Youth Orchestra of Kenya performed for U.S. President Barack Obama in July 2015, during his visit to Kenya.
They recorded their first score for a short TV feature in the same month, and are laying the groundwork for more recordings in East Africa over the next few years.
In the meantime, the orchestra continues to run week-long residential training courses, where students participate in intensive instrumental instruction, leadership activities and sessions on cultural and socio-economic integration in society. The orchestra has been able to appoint the first group of players to full tutor positions this year.
